We’re hiring an Assistant General Manager at The Farmers Arms, Ulverston

Are you an experienced hospitality professional looking for your next challenge? The Farmers Arms, a beloved pub in the heart of Ulverston, is seeking an enthusiastic and capable Assistant General Manager to join our team on a full-time basis. Key Responsibilities:

  • Staff Management: Lead and manage the team by delegating tasks, creating staff rotas, and setting performance targets. Support and motivate staff to provide top-tier service.
  • Customer Experience: Address customer queries and complaints professionally, ensuring guests enjoy a welcoming and positive atmosphere. Act as the venue’s representative in the absence of the General Manager.
  • Operational Management: Oversee stock control and ordering, manage the cellar, and handle cash and banking duties to ensure smooth operations.
  • Event Planning: Organise and promote events and activities that will draw in both regular and new customers, helping to enhance the pub’s reputation.
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure all staff follow health and safety standards, licensing laws, and internal policies, creating a safe environment for everyone.
  • Staff Training: Train new team members to meet our high standards and provide ongoing training to help staff develop their skills.
  • Problem Solving & Decision Making: Take initiative in resolving issues and making quick decisions during busy shifts, ensuring seamless day-to-day operations.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience: Proven experience in a hospitality management role is essential.

We’re looking for an experienced  Sous Chef at The Farmers Arms, Ulverston

As Sous Chef, you’ll be second in command in the kitchen, working alongside our Head Chef to ensure the smooth running of daily operations. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and driven chef who thrives in a fast-paced, high-quality environment. You’ll play a crucial role in maintaining the highest standards of food preparation and service, as well as mentoring junior chefs and taking charge when the Head Chef is unavailable.

Position: Assistant General Manager

Pay: £32,760 – £37,440 per year

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the Head Chef in managing all aspects of the kitchen, including food preparation, cooking, and presentation

The Farmers Arms, a cherished venue in the heart of Ulverston, is seeking a dedicated Bar/Restaurant Supervisor to manage daily operations, uphold high standards, and ensure excellent customer experiences.

This role is ideal for someone ready to take on greater responsibility, with a strong grasp of health and safety, first aid, and licensing regulations.

Position: Bar/Restaurant Supervisor

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Supervision: Manage and supervise the bar/restaurant team to ensure efficient operations, maintaining a welcoming atmosphere for our guests.
  • Operational Management: Oversee the day-to-day functioning of the venue, including staff scheduling, training, and development. Step in as acting manager in the absence of the General Manager.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure strict adherence to health and safety regulations, first aid protocols, and fire safety procedures. Be responsible for upholding the venue’s policies, including obtaining and maintaining a personal licence and fire warden certification.
  • Customer Service Excellence: Deliver and encourage exceptional customer service across all team members, handling customer inquiries, bookings, complaints, and special events. Manage larger bookings, special occasions, and festive functions, such as Christmas events, to provide a seamless experience.
  • Venue Cleanliness & Maintenance: Ensure the interior and exterior of the venue are kept clean, tidy, and presentable. Delegate tasks to team members and ensure that end-of-shift procedures are followed, leaving the site ready for the next day’s operations.
  • Stock & Cash Handling: Manage stock levels, place orders when necessary, and oversee cellar operations, including barrel tapping and stock rotation. Conduct daily cashing up, banking, and other financial tasks.
  • Flexibility & Problem Solving: Adapt to changing situations swiftly and make quick, effective decisions under pressure. Whether it’s adjusting shifts, “juggling tables” to accommodate customers, or handling unforeseen challenges, you’ll use your initiative to maintain smooth operations.

What We’re Looking For:
