The Farmers Arms, a beloved pub in the heart of Ulverston, is seeking an enthusiastic and capable Assistant General Manager to join our team on a full-time basis. This role will coincide with our existing management team, helping to maintain a healthy work/life balance for everyone. Support our operations, lead the team, and deliver exceptional service to our valued guests.
Position: Assistant General Manager
Hours: Full-Time (45 hours per week)
Salary: £31,000 – £35,000
Key Responsibilities:
- Staff Management: Lead and manage the team by delegating tasks, creating staff rotas, and setting performance targets. Support and motivate staff to provide top-tier service.
- Customer Experience: Address customer queries and complaints professionally, ensuring guests enjoy a welcoming and positive atmosphere. Act as the venue’s representative in the absence of the General Manager.
- Operational Management: Oversee stock control and ordering, manage the cellar, and handle cash and banking duties to ensure smooth operations.
- Event Planning: Organise and promote events and activities that will draw in both regular and new customers, helping to enhance the pub’s reputation.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure all staff follow health and safety standards, licensing laws, and internal policies, creating a safe environment for everyone.
- Staff Training: Train new team members to meet our high standards and provide ongoing training to help staff develop their skills.
- Problem Solving & Decision Making: Take initiative in resolving issues and making quick decisions during busy shifts, ensuring seamless day-to-day operations.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience: Proven experience in a hospitality management role is essential.
- Leadership Skills: Strong leadership abilities with the capacity to delegate, motivate, and support a team effectively.
- Customer Service: A passion for excellent customer service and the ability to resolve issues calmly and professionally.
- Operational Knowledge: Familiarity with stock control, cash handling, and cellar management. Knowledge of licensing laws and health and safety regulations is crucial.
- Skills: Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to multitask and work under pressure.
- Training & Development: Experience in training and mentoring staff, helping them grow in their roles.
- Qualifications: First Aid certification is desirable, Personal Licence a MUST, along with knowledge of GP targets.
